My Mount Everest Base Camp Trek

I have recently decided that in October 2013 I will climb to Mount Everest Base Camp - nearly 18,000ft into the sky (That’s a lot for someone who gets afraid while on top of a ladder!). This will be the biggest challenge I have set myself in life yet and I am so excited and determined to do it. I am only in the early stages of planning and researching it yet, but so far, so good.

I will be flying from Dublin to London Heathrow, then from London Heathrow to Kathmandu where I will take a short but breathtaking flight over the Himalyas and land in Lukla. Lukla is then where my trek will start to Base Camp, you can see below a similar route that I will be taking, but instead of going from Tengboche - Pheriche through Dughla - Lobuche, I will instead be going from Tengboche - Dingboche - through Dughla - Lobuche. Then once I reach Base Camp, if I am in good enough shape, I will climb to the peak of Kala Pattar, where I will witness some of the most breathtaking views of my life.

Currently, my fitness would not get me half way up the trek without keeling over, so I have a lot of fitness work to do in the next 12 months. I am determined to be in tip-top shape for this next October, which means a lot of training and suffering over the next year - but it will all be worth it when I am sitting on the peak of Kala Pattar watching the sunrise over the monster that is, Mount Everest.

Got home from the gig, sat down and chilled.

But I got thinking, without music or me playing the drums my life would be ridiculously different!
I’ve met some amazing people through music, made some of my best mates through it and people I know I am going to be friends with for life. I would have never met my girlfriend only for it. I wouldn’t have the job I have only for it. I would never have felt the THAT feeling you get when on stage or someone recognises you because of your music.
Lets face it, if I wasn’t playing drums I would probably be some Nike tracksuit wearing scummer drinking Buckfast day in, day out.
Nothing can describe the feeling you get on stage and when you see people singing the words to your own song back, like the fact that they listened to the song is incredible!
I only started playing drums because my brother got some cheap ass drum kit as a joke present one Christmas for my Dad. So really I have my brother to thank, cheers Gary, I owe you one!

Thats my thoughts over with for the night.
Gonna go get a sandwich and sleeeeeeeeeep.

WOAH…TUMBLR! It’s been a long time!

(Notice thats how most my posts start?)

Onto to the interesting (or not so interesting) stuff.
It is 4.15am and I can’t sleep, so what better to do than write a blog?

Lets start with Life…im still alive, that’s always a good start! Haven’t had the best of weeks, but it’s on the up again thank god.

I feel like im talking to myself, wait, I am, nobody will probably bother their backside reading this much of the blog, but if you have…CONGRATS! You are probably the only one to do so.

But, I will continue…
I have a new job these days, so that is keeping me pretty active and on my feet, while also learning new and interesting stuff.
Then there is the band, over the last week I have played some of the most fun shows ever! The response we are getting is truly amazing, people are so nice. Not to mention all the merch everyone has been buying, it really does help so much when somebody buys something, thank you. Last weekend I played Roscommon, Dublin & Sligo…which were all great shows in their own way…and still have Castlebar, Leitrim, Galway, Donegal and a HUGE Connacht show to go in the next few weeks! I cannot describe how excited I am, being on stage is like a drug, you just can’t get enough!

…I got distracted, started YouTube-ing videos of Oasis. What a fucking band eh?

But yes, think I will hit the hay for a bit.

Jesus, it’s been a long time since i’ve posted on this! I must get back into my Tumblr-ing ways.
Im bored, so I am going to write.
This has been one of the most boring/slow weeks of my life. My girlfriend is back at school..so I can’t see her. The bandmates are back in school…so I can’t practice. All my friends are moving off to college…so i can’t chill with them.
The extent of my boredom is hard to explain.
But in fairness, in the last 2 days i’ve got up off my hole and gone for a cycle, bringing my camera with me. Ended up recording a few video’s that I could edit…making me bored to a lesser extent.
I have sweet FA hours at work so im on the lookout for another job. Shop work, barwork, slavework…fuck it, picking gum off the street will do! As long as I get paid for it. I have a motherfucking loan hanging over my head to pay off, then gotta raise money for my course next year…we’re talking the guts of 10grand here for the course itself, accommodation and travel.
Anyways, its nearly the weekend, a few beers and triple vodkas are in order.
On the bright side im heading to Limerick Citaaay next week to stay with my mates for a few days…Bring it on!
